EURO 2012

Creating the identity of Poland-Ukraine’s candidacy for the UEFA European Football Championship Euro 2012

CONTEXT

The joint candidacy of Poland and Ukraine needed the proper communication to present the advantages they offer over other countries, including Italy, supported by a longstanding passion for football (soccer). It was also necessary to enhance internal support in both nations.

CHALLENGE

Boost national enthusiasm for Poland-Ukraine’s bid to organize the UEFA European Football Championship Euro 2012 by creating an identity system that showed how the candidacy/event organization could bring together those connected by their love of football.

SOLUTION

The key design concept was based on a modern interpretation of native designs: a traditional Polish cutout (visible in the icon on the ball) and a Ukrainian neckerchief (on the striped panel). The color choice conveys the spontaneous joy that football means for people of different backgrounds (uniting force) as well as the vitality and dynamism of the two candidate countries. The national colors (white and red for Poland, yellow and blue for Ukraine) are neatly incorporated into the rich palette.
