Nurturing new talent

Getting connected

This year we launched the Dragon Rouge Firestarters Student Brief. It’s our way of building closer connections with the best universities and supporting emerging talent.

Our team went out to universities to tell them more about Dragon Rouge and to set three briefs. We used the briefs to show the importance of strategic/sustainable thinking and fuller brand experiences. We encouraged the students to be smart with how they approached the briefs, as well as to create something beautiful.

The entries

We were wowed by the entries that came back. Narrowing down wasn’t easy, but we shortlisted the responses that showed clear problem solving, attention to detail, clear articulation of their ideas and excellence in design. And to make sure we weren’t biased in any way, we blind-judged all the entries.

The winners

Third place winner Dora Newstead, from Bournemouth University took the Olio app and created a real-life street food experience. Her campaign, based on simple illustrations that recycle the letters of the logotype, carried on this idea perfectly. Her response was both smart and thoughtful, and showed the strength in her idea.

In second place, Elena Lockyer, from Norwich University of the Arts turned Spotify into a real-world experience. This idea converts Spotify data into an event that encourages a sense of discovery: ‘Uncommon Ground’. We were impressed with the thought put into each detail, from the interior feel to the scalability of the concept.

And in first place, Kate Fitzgerald and Lydia Emmerton, from Nottingham University worked together to create Bambino, a sustainable fashion brand for kids. The concept had lovely design touches and detailing, but it was the idea of ‘wear, seed, grow’ that took the concept one step further – encouraging full circularity in the luxury sector. Their idea was thoughtful, realistic and sensitively treated.

We were excited by all of the entries, but we felt the winners best reflected the DR way of working: smart, innovative and beautiful crafted.

All winners now have the opportunity of working with our teams in the studio and we’re looking forward to welcoming them through the red doors soon. Well done everyone!
